Lorna Shut Down My Website

(Lorna’s Actions Speak Louder Than Her Words)

On Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the monthly Common Council meeting, Mayor Lorna Marquardt proudly announced that she had succeeded in shutting down my website, www.whatyoushouldknowaboutshawano.com.  She stated that she was concerned that this website has the potential to damage the community’s tourist and visitor trade.  Rather than responding in kind using her ‘defamatory’ string of ‘horrendous’ and ‘horrific’ adjectives, let’s take an objective look at the issue of Shawano’s economy and who is doing what to hurt and help.

 

Lorna claims the statement on www.whatyoushouldknowaboutshawano.com indicating that the town officials have made a concerted effort to harm Dr. Roy and SIST is “an outrageous accusation.”

 

A few questions: Is Lorna trying to say that she has nothing against Dr. Roy or SIST?  In a town of less than 10,000 people, why doesn’t she ever eat at the Best Western Restaurant?  Get gas at the People’s Express stations?  Shop at the Northwoods?  Visit the Midwest Gift & Fudge House?  Why didn’t she, as the invited guest of honor, show up to cut the ribbon at USA International Raceway’s Grand Opening event in 2004?  These are all top-quality Shawano businesses that she should be proud to patronize and promote.  But she doesn’t.  Ever.

 

Why did she cut the liquor license for the Best Western Restaurant in a sneaky and deceitful manner? If she is so concerned about liquor licenses and who is the proper licensee, why did she allow an emergency transfer of the liquor license from the Northern Lights to the Gathering, a completely separate business? Why did she come up with a new parking law on the eve of a USAIR event to prevent spectators and participants from being able to park near the event?  Conversely, why did she turn the other way when people parked all over the shoulders of Hwy H during an event at the Mielke Theater?  I’d like to know: what is this double standard?

 

Since when is Lorna concerned about damaging Shawano’s economy?  She has done everything in her power to hurt and damage the local businesses owned by SIST, and now she comes up with an excuse about damaging the city’s trade to shut down a website that shows up Lorna and the City Council and the Evil Leader.  More likely she is concerned about having herself exposed for being the racial bigot that she is.

 

The only way to fight racial prejudice is to expose it for what it is.  That is what I have done and will continue to do.  Temporarily shutting down a website does not stop the racial prejudice nor repair the damage Lorna has done to Shawano’s economy with her endless bigotry.  If she truly wishes to prevent damage to Shawano’s tourist and visitor industry, she should think about promoting all of the local businesses that have the potential to bring large numbers of visitors into town.  If she has nothing against Dr. Roy and SIST, I invite her to come for dinner at the Best Western Restaurant and be my guest—she’ll get the finest steaks and mashed potatoes in Wisconsin.
